Pakistan’s telecom industry has denied the allegations of tax evasion being reported in the media. The National Accountability Bureau or NAB claims that the telecommunication sector of Pakistan has not been depositing sales tax on interconnection charges for the last five years.
The telecom sector has already requested a week to review the legal predicament it faces, and to prepare a response on the NAB’s allegations, which according to a representative, are unfounded.
Pakistan’s telecom operators are now threatening stoppage of service amidst the legal pressure being put by the NAB’s allegations, and subsequent enquiry into the tax evasion charges.
