On July 18, 2012, optical transport systems expert Optelian announced that it would be providing Tier 1 carrier customer DWDM solution deployments to independent telecommunications companies ATMC and Otelco.
Tier 1 carrier requirements required new mobile backhaul services be routed through ATMC and Otelco’s networks. However, the two independent networks lacked sufficient fiber capacity to handle the influx of new traffic.
Optelian’s DWDM solution provides the needed mid-point interconnect applications with Tier 1 carriers. The solution was designed for easy deployment and use with the networks of customers like ATMC and Otelco. Users gain the capability to set up their systems, address technical issues, and immediately support Tier 1 customers at once.
In addition, Optelian’s DWDM system will allow provisions for additional bandwidth and additional capacity that ATMC and Otelco will need in the future. The network operators will also be able to install the standardized Tier 1 carrier system without having to configure anything. Finally, the solution will ensure that ATMC and Otelco will assign the right wavelengths to the job through close coordination with the Tier 1 customers.
Representatives from Otelco and ATMC expressed their pleasure with the Optelian upgrade. They noted the ease and speed of installation and use, and the immediate jump in mobile backhaul performance.
